Congress MP Manish Tewari expressed worry about the ongoing conflict in the Gulf, emphasizing its adverse effects on India’s economic and energy security. He highlighted the challenges faced by citizens, especially in rural areas, due to LPG shortages, urging the government to address supply gaps.
Tewari also pointed out the rising fuel prices, mentioning the increase in LPG and petrol rates by Nayara Energy. He raised doubts about the effectiveness of current diplomatic efforts and stressed the need to de-escalate tensions in the Gulf for the sake of global trade, particularly focusing on reopening the vital Strait of Hormuz.
Moreover, Tewari highlighted concerns beyond oil and gas, including disruptions in fertilizer supply. Despite restrictions for ships associated with the US and its allies, Iran has allowed safe passage for Indian vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, as confirmed by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
