Congress Rajya Sabha MP Abhishek Singhvi has called on the ruling BJP-led government to send the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, to a Select or Standing Committee for thorough review. Singhvi emphasized the need for careful consideration, citing concerns about the government’s past handling of FCRA issues.
Speaking outside Parliament, Singhvi expressed reservations about the government’s approach towards FCRA, highlighting the negative impact on NGOs. He stressed the importance of not rushing the bill and suggested involving committees for a detailed discussion before passing it. Singhvi referenced the previous Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Bill to underscore the importance of public feedback and constructive amendments.
Singhvi pointed out the resignations of two members of the National Council for Transgender Persons following the passage of the Bill, indicating growing dissent. He urged the government to listen to feedback, make necessary amendments, and collaborate to ensure a better version of the FCRA Bill. Despite the ongoing controversy, the FCRA Bill was not presented in Parliament on Wednesday.
Kerala BJP President Rajeev Chandrasekhar reassured that concerns surrounding the FCRA Bill would be addressed before any decision is made. He pledged to engage in discussions to address issues raised before bringing the legislation to the Lok Sabha for consideration.
