The Congress party has disclosed its candidates for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, marking a significant move in its readiness within the DMK-led alliance. The finalized list, comprising nominees for 27 out of 28 constituencies assigned to the Congress, was announced by AICC General Secretary K. C. Venugopal. The selection process involved thorough consultations with state leaders and alliance members, with the Melur seat yet to be declared.
The Congress is partnering with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) for the polls, both aiming to uphold their position in the state. Notable candidates include Durai Chandrasekar for Ponneri, JMH Aassan Maulaana for Velachery, K. Selvaperunthagai for Sriperumbudur, and A. M. Munirathinam for Sholingur. In western Tamil Nadu, Dr A. Chella Kumar will contest from Krishnagiri, and Gopinath Palaniyappan is the candidate for Erode (East).
Moreover, B. Ramachandran will compete from Udhagamandalam in the Nilgiris district. The party has also named candidates for various regions, such as Jamal Yunus Mohammed for Mayiladuthurai, T. Rama Chandhiran for Aranthangi, S. Mangudi for Karaikudi, and Ganesan Ashokan for Sivakasi. In the southern districts, Ruby Manoharan will contest from Nanguneri, and Dr Tharagai Cuthbert from Colachel.
T. T. Praveen is fielded from Vilavancode, while Advocate S. Rajesh Kumar will represent the party in Killiyoor. The Congress is set to announce the final candidate for Melur soon, completing its election roster. The party leadership is confident that the chosen candidates offer a blend of experience, grassroots connection, and regional diversity. As the campaign intensifies, the Congress is expected to enhance its outreach in collaboration with alliance partners, gearing up for a closely watched electoral battle in Tamil Nadu.
