Asaduddin Owaisi’s party AIMIM ended its alliance with Humayun Kabir’s Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP) following the release of a 19-minute controversial video. In response, Humayun Kabir accused Trinamool Congress of orchestrating a conspiracy against them, alleging the video was fabricated to harm AJUP before the elections. He vowed to take legal action against the parties involved.
Humayun Kabir, chairman of AJUP, criticized Trinamool Congress and certain AIMIM leaders during a press conference in Murshidabad district. He claimed that Trinamool had engaged in significant financial transactions with select AIMIM members and asserted that the video causing the political uproar was misleading.
Accusing AIMIM leaders of accepting money from Trinamool representatives, Humayun blamed the breakdown of the alliance on financial dealings between the parties. AIMIM’s Murshidabad District President, Asadul Sheikh, dismissed these accusations, stating that the alliance was severed based on a report sent to Asaduddin Owaisi, the party chief.
Asadul affirmed that AIMIM would contest the elections independently, vowing not to cede ground to Trinamool Congress. He announced that Asaduddin Owaisi would campaign for their candidate in the Raghunathganj Assembly constituency, expressing confidence in securing multiple seats in the state.
Trinamool Congress released a video implicating Humayun Kabir in alleged secret dealings with the BJP, where he purportedly sought a substantial sum of money. Despite threats of legal action, Humayun maintained that the video was manipulated using artificial intelligence. Meanwhile, multiple police complaints have been filed against Humayun for allegedly attempting to stoke communal tensions during the election season.
Several members of AJUP have departed from the party amidst the video controversy, further complicating the political landscape in West Bengal.
