CPI-M leader Hannan Mollah has expressed disapproval of the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in West Bengal. Mollah alleges that individuals opposed to the BJP are being removed from the electoral rolls. He emphasized that the ongoing revision is unprecedented in its scope and nature.
According to Mollah, the Election Commission is singling out anti-BJP individuals and deleting their names from the voter lists. He stated that while revisions are routine, the current process is unparalleled. Mollah highlighted the necessity of ensuring that all legitimate voters are included before elections are conducted.
Mollah criticized the Election Commission’s current approach, claiming it lacks independence. He noted that historically, the Election Commission operated autonomously and revised electoral rolls periodically. Mollah raised concerns about the credibility of the electoral rolls and emphasized the need for a fair process before elections.
The CPI(M) leader also questioned the Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar, alleging his alignment with the Union government. Mollah criticized Kumar’s actions, stating they do not align with constitutional principles. He expressed apprehension over the scale of deletions and the overall electoral roll maintenance process.
