Cricket Australia has announced the women’s central contract list for the 2026-27 season, adding newcomers Lucy Hamilton and Chloe Ainsworth to boost their pace-bowling options for the busy T20 schedule. The 18-player roster sees three changes from the previous year, with Nicola Carey making a comeback after impressing at the international level.
Lucy Hamilton, a teenage left-arm seamer, earns her first national contract after a swift progression, debuting in all three formats within a short period. Her standout performances at the Under-19 World Cup led to appearances in ODIs, Tests, and T20Is for Australia.
Chloe Ainsworth, a promising pacer from Western Australia, secures a contract based on her strong showings in the Women’s Big Bash League, despite not yet playing for the senior national team. Meanwhile, Nicola Carey’s return to the list follows her successful stint against India earlier this year, showcasing her skills and experience.
Former captain Alyssa Healy is left out after retiring from Test cricket, alongside Victoria’s Tess Flintoff and Tayla Vlaeminck. While Flintoff’s potential did not translate into national team opportunities, Vlaeminck is on the path to recovery from a shoulder injury sustained during the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Shawn Flegler, Cricket Australia’s head of performance and national selector, assures that Flintoff and Vlaeminck, though not currently contracted, are still in contention for future selections. The upcoming season kicks off with the T20 World Cup in England, where Australia aims to improve on recent semi-final exits in ICC events.
According to the agreement between Cricket Australia and the Australian Cricketers’ Association, up to 18 players can hold national contracts, with chances for upgrades based on international performances throughout the season.
