Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh concluded a three-day outreach programme by visiting the Surgical Eye Camp at the Military Hospital in Bhuj. Over 200 beneficiaries from Kutch district had their vision restored during the camp organized by the Indian Army’s Southern Command in collaboration with the Army Hospital (Research & Referral), New Delhi.
Accompanied by Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command, the Defence Secretary engaged with patients in post-operative wards. He checked on their recovery progress, distributed medicines, and provided spectacles to multiple beneficiaries personally.
Singh praised the efforts of the medical teams and honored Brigadier Sanjay Kumar Mishra and the specialist surgical team for their exceptional work in offering advanced eye care under challenging conditions. He highlighted the camp as a testament to the Indian Army’s dedication to veterans’ welfare and military-civil cooperation, emphasizing its positive impact on enhancing the quality of life for residents in remote border areas.
The outreach programme targeted nearly 3,000 individuals in Kutch district, including veterans, their dependents, and civilians from over 120 villages in Bhuj taluka, such as Lakhpat, Narayan Sarovar, and Dayapar. In addition to surgeries, the camp conducted comprehensive eye screenings to detect and address various eye conditions early on, utilizing cutting-edge ophthalmic equipment and premium intraocular lenses while maintaining high clinical and safety standards.
