A delegation from Venezuela is currently in Washington to set up the country’s diplomatic mission in the United States. The delegation includes Vice Foreign Minister Oliver Blanco and Felix Plasencia, who is the appointed charge d’affaires for the Venezuelan embassy in the US.
During their visit, the delegation has engaged in meetings with US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau and other senior officials to discuss various matters concerning Venezuelan citizens. The aim of the visit is to address issues of importance to the Venezuelan community residing in the United States.
Venezuela’s acting President Delcy Rodriguez recently announced the readiness of the delegation to resume operations of the diplomatic mission in the US. This move follows an agreement reached on March 5 between Caracas and Washington to restore diplomatic relations after a period of rupture.
Rodriguez also made changes to the cabinet, appointing new ministers for defense, housing, and electric energy. Gustavo Gonzalez Lopez has been named the new defense minister, taking over from Vladimir Padrino Lopez. Gonzalez Lopez, who previously served as the commander of the Presidential Honour Guard, assumed the role following US strikes on Venezuela in January.
Jorge Marquez Monsalve has been appointed as the minister for habitat and housing, with the responsibility of ensuring adequate housing for Venezuelans. Additionally, electrical engineer Rolando Alcala has been appointed as the minister of electric energy, as announced by Rodriguez.
