Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta expressed disappointment with the negative approach of the Opposition AAP legislators during the recently concluded Budget Session. Gupta highlighted that the Opposition boycotted the House proceedings without any substantial issues, which he deemed as unprecedented in the legislative practice of the country.
Addressing reporters post-session, Gupta emphasized the concern over the Opposition’s decision to abstain from House proceedings under the guise of protest, despite the absence of clear issues. He condemned the disruption of the House’s functioning and the attempt to create misleading narratives, labeling it as a pattern of indiscipline that is unacceptable.
Gupta noted that the Budget Session, spanning from March 23 to March 27, witnessed a total working time of 15 hours and 16 minutes, showcasing a focused and result-oriented legislative engagement. He raised serious concerns about the conduct of the Opposition during this session, emphasizing the importance of upholding parliamentary decorum and responsibility.
The Speaker reiterated that the House operates in accordance with its Rules of Procedure and criticized the Opposition for failing to fulfill their legislative responsibility and public accountability by refusing to participate in discussions despite multiple opportunities. He clarified the procedures regarding the suspension of members and highlighted the importance of adhering to the established rules for effective parliamentary functioning.
