Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta led a meeting of the Finance Expenditure Committee and greenlit a project to construct a two-lane road along both sides of the Najafgarh Drain. The project, with a total expenditure of Rs 453.95 crore, aims to ease congestion on major roads, reduce travel time, fuel consumption, and vehicular emissions. This initiative will enhance Delhi’s transport infrastructure by providing an alternative intra-city route within the capital.
Irrigation and Flood Control Minister Pravesh Sahib Singh also attended the committee meeting at the Delhi Secretariat. The project entails building a 5.94 km two-lane road on the left bank from Jhatikra Bridge to Chhawla Bridge. Additionally, roads will be developed along both sides of the drain from Chhawla to Basaidarapur, covering a total length of 27.415 km, resulting in a corridor length of 60.77 km.
The corridor will offer connectivity to major roads such as Outer Ring Road, Inner Ring Road, Shivaji Marg, Pankha Road, UER-II, Najafgarh Road, and other key routes. It will link with Inner Ring Road at Basaidarapur, Outer Ring Road at Keshopur, Pankha Road at Vikaspuri, Najafgarh Road at Kakrola, and UER-II at Dhulsiras, providing direct access to the airport and Dwarka Expressway.
The project will enhance connectivity between rural and urban areas from Dhansa to Basaidarapur, benefiting several areas including Uttam Nagar, Vikaspuri, Najafgarh, Bijwasan, Chhawla, Goyla Dairy, Dwarka, Baprola, Nilothi, Paschim Vihar, Rajouri Garden, and IGI Airport. It will also strengthen links to Gurugram Sectors 104 and 110, improving connections between Delhi and Haryana.
