Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta recently unveiled 120 mist spray systems at the Indira Gandhi International Airport premises. She highlighted the government’s strategic approach to combat pollution with short-term, mid-term, and long-term plans. Gupta emphasized the importance of these systems in curbing air pollution and creating a healthier environment for travelers.
The Chief Minister outlined the Delhi government’s goals, including electrifying the public bus fleet by 2029, expanding the Metro network, setting up EV charging infrastructure, deploying over 1,000 water sprinklers citywide, and introducing AI-based dust monitoring at construction sites. These initiatives aim not only to reduce pollution significantly but also to enhance Delhi’s livability.
Gupta reiterated the administration’s dedication to promoting clean air, green transport, and sustainable growth in Delhi. She assured continued efforts towards achieving these objectives. The event was attended by various dignitaries, including South Delhi MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri and Bijwasan MLA Kailash Gahlot, along with the airport’s operating company director Narayan Rao Kada.
The Chief Minister mentioned the existing mist spray systems on major roads and 143 elevated Metro stations in Delhi. She highlighted the city’s real-time monitoring network expansion to 46 Metro stations, the largest of its kind in the country. Gupta also stressed the ‘Vayu Rakshak’ initiative’s role in enforcing pollution control standards.
Delhi Airport, described as the busiest in the region, is anticipated to exceed 100 million passengers in the future, becoming the world’s fifth-largest airport. The newly installed mist systems at the airport aim to enhance air quality for passengers and enhance the capital’s environmental reputation. Gupta expressed gratitude to the funding company, emphasizing the social responsibility and nation-building aspect of the initiative.
