A Delhi court has granted five days’ police custody to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist Shabir Ahmed Lone in connection with the Metro poster case. The Delhi Police Special Cell sought custody to delve deeper into the dismantled terror module’s larger conspiracy. Lone, a key handler of the previous module, was arrested from Ghazipur and is being investigated for potential recruits and operational networks.
The court, after hearing arguments, approved the police custody plea to aid in identifying associates and uncovering the operational network. Lone, previously arrested in Jammu and Kashmir, was found with an AK-47 rifle. After the earlier module’s dismantling, he returned to India to establish a new network and recruit individuals.
Officials disclosed that Lone had traveled to Bangladesh to set up a fresh terror module. Delhi Police had earlier arrested eight suspects linked to the same network. Lone, who spent a decade in jail on terror charges, fled to Bangladesh post-bail and maintained contact with LeT commanders. The police are investigating the intended targets and the extent of the alleged conspiracy.
