The Delhi government has approved a one-time financial aid of Rs 500 crore to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to enhance sanitation and combat dust pollution in the capital. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the funds will be used for sanitation projects and minor road repairs, such as filling potholes, to reduce dust levels throughout the city. Additionally, the government plans to provide an annual financial assistance of Rs 300 crore to the Municipal Corporation in the future to sustain sanitation infrastructure.
A high-level meeting chaired by the Chief Minister was conducted at the Delhi Secretariat, with the participation of key officials including Cabinet Minister Ashish Sood and Mayor of Delhi Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh. The allocated funds will be utilized to settle pending dues of waste management agencies, ensuring continuous and efficient sanitation services. Moreover, the financial aid will address the deficit in garbage collection, transportation, and the removal of accumulated waste from inactive contractor areas.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta highlighted that part of the assistance will focus on dust-control measures like repairing roads, filling potholes, and conducting minor patch repairs to combat dust pollution at its source. The allocated funds aim to enhance the overall cleanliness and hygiene of Delhi, promoting a pollution-free environment for its residents.
