Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta attended the 18th convocation of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University. They urged graduates to contribute to society and become drivers of Viksit Bharat@2047. The LG emphasized that convocation signifies not just the end of an academic journey but the start of new ones crucial for nation-building.
Chief Minister Gupta highlighted the years of hard work, discipline, and dedication by students. She described today’s graduates as the real drivers of ‘Viksit Bharat,’ urging them to utilize their talents for the nation’s progress on the global stage. Among the attendees were university officials, students, parents, and dignitaries.
The Lieutenant Governor stressed the importance of education equipping students with adaptability, critical thinking, and innovation. He linked this to the Prime Minister’s vision of Viksit Bharat @2047, emphasizing the need for problem-solvers in various critical areas. Referring to Guru Gobind Singh’s teachings, he urged students to view education as a responsibility towards society and the nation.
Chief Minister Gupta commended the university’s work in cutting-edge fields like AI, robotics, data science, and design innovation. She praised the Atal Incubation Centre for supporting numerous startups, aiding young individuals in transitioning from job seekers to job creators. The government’s focus on education was highlighted, with the education budget in Delhi reaching Rs 19,326 crore this year.
A total of 26,649 degrees were conferred at the convocation, including undergraduate, postgraduate, MPhil, and PhD degrees. Notably, women constituted 70% of the PhD recipients this year. Additionally, meritorious students were awarded 76 gold medals and six memorial awards.
