Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena expressed happiness at the positive reception of the Third International Kite Festival organized by the Delhi Development Authority at Baansera grasslands near the Yamuna. He shared his satisfaction that both the venue and the event were his concepts. The festival, inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, has drawn significant attention and is becoming a popular attraction on the national capital’s event calendar.
The festival, which began at 1 p.m. on its opening day, saw 3,000 visitors, followed by 9,000 on the second day, and over 15,000 attendees by 4 p.m. on the third day. Concurrently, the 11th International Dance and Music Festival by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations at the same venue is also receiving a positive response. Amit Shah inaugurated the three-day International Kite Festival at Birsa Munda Chowk in Baansera.
DDA Vice-Chairman N. Saravana Kumar mentioned that the inauguration ceremony took place at Baansera. The DDA had earlier invited citizens to visit the restored grasslands on Yamuna floodplains at Baansera near Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi in August 2024. The Lieutenant Governor shared a video showcasing the transformation of the area from degradation to a green oasis on the eve of the kite festival.
Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of restoring degraded land, the Lieutenant Governor initiated the restoration of Baansera in May 2022. The area, once heavily degraded and polluted, has now been reclaimed and transformed into a recreational destination with bamboo trees and a lush landscape. Baansera, with its tall bamboo trees and green surroundings, has become a unique recreational spot and ecological marvel in Delhi.
