Delhi Urban Development Minister Ashish Sood expressed the government’s commitment to tackling the escalating pollution issue in the capital. The city’s air quality recently plummeted to ‘severe’ levels, with an Air Quality Index of 408, exacerbated by dense fog and heavy pollution causing visibility problems. Sood emphasized that pollution in Delhi is not solely a local problem but is significantly influenced by environmental conditions in neighboring states.
Efforts are underway on various fronts to combat the pollution crisis, Sood revealed during an inspection at Janakpuri C2C Block. Measures include dust control, enhancing public transport, and reducing vehicle emissions to curb pollution levels. Sood criticized the previous administration for neglecting these issues, highlighting the current government’s proactive approach in implementing concrete solutions rather than relying on mere slogans.
The Minister underscored ongoing initiatives such as the odd/even formula and the development of a new EV policy to address pollution. Additionally, steps are being taken to control road dust and introduce Phase V of the metro for improved public transportation. Sood assured continuous efforts to find long-term solutions to Delhi’s pollution challenges, acknowledging that these measures may take time to yield results.
Sood also mentioned the government’s rigorous monitoring and inspection activities to ensure accountability and progress. He emphasized the administration’s commitment to resolving public issues directly, without shifting blame onto others. Despite these efforts, air quality in several parts of Delhi remains a cause for concern, with experts warning of further deterioration as the year concludes.
