Delhi Police arrested Uday Bhanu Chib, the National President of the Indian Youth Congress, in connection with a shirtless protest at Bharat Mandapam during the India AI Impact Summit. Chib was taken into custody after extensive questioning and allegedly not cooperating with investigators. He has been brought to the Patiala House Court following his arrest.
Senior Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel criticized the arrest of Uday Bhanu Chib and other Youth Congress members, denouncing it as an “illegal arrest.” Baghel emphasized the importance of peaceful expression and condemned the government’s actions as an attack on democracy. He demanded the immediate release of all arrested IYC workers, including Chib, and the withdrawal of false charges against them.
The protest at the AI Impact Summit, where IYC workers wore or carried T-shirts with anti-Prime Minister slogans, sparked a political controversy between the BJP and Congress. The BJP labeled the protest as a shameful act to tarnish India’s image, while the IYC defended it as a peaceful demonstration for national interests. Congress leader Pawan Khera highlighted the protest’s significance in bringing attention to youth concerns and criticized attempts to discredit it.
