The Delhi Police Special Cell apprehended Shabir Ahmed Lone, a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist and handler of a recently exposed module related to the Metro poster incident. Lone was captured in the Ghazipur area late Sunday night by a team led by DCP Praveen Pathi. The arrest follows a complaint by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on February 8 at the Supreme Court Metro station, where provocative and anti-India posters were discovered, sparking a thorough investigation.
The case, registered under relevant laws, prompted the Special Cell to launch a comprehensive inquiry utilizing both ground intelligence and technical surveillance. Additional CP Pramod Singh Kushwaha confirmed that Lone was a key figure in a previous dismantled module. Lone, who had been arrested in 2007 and 2015, was found in possession of an AK-47 rifle during his 2015 arrest in Kashmir. His associate, Sajjad Gul, who fled to Pakistan, is believed to have established The Resistance Front (TRF).
Investigations revealed that Lone had also traveled to Bangladesh to establish a new terror module. Earlier, on February 23, Delhi Police detained eight suspects associated with the same network, indicating that the group operated under Lone’s guidance. Lone, who had previously served jail time on terror charges, fled to Bangladesh after being released on bail in 2019, maintaining contact with top LeT leaders. The Delhi Police are currently interrogating the accused to uncover the alleged conspiracy’s targets and extent.
