With the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections set for May 23, political activity in the state has intensified. Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin has been nominated by the DMK from the key constituency of Chepauk–Triplicane. The DMK, contesting 164 seats directly, will be present in 175 constituencies under its ‘Rising Sun’ symbol.
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has confirmed Udhayanidhi Stalin as the DMK’s nominee for Chepauk–Triplicane. Udhayanidhi Stalin filed his nomination at his election office in Chepauk, a politically significant area in Chennai. The constituency, formed in 2008, includes landmarks like the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium and the University of Madras.
Chepauk–Triplicane, with a total electorate of 1,63,086 voters, has been historically a DMK stronghold. The constituency saw Udhayanidhi Stalin’s victory in the 2021 elections. In the upcoming polls, he will face competition from AIADMK’s Rajaram, Naam Tamilar Katchi’s Ayesha Begum, and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam’s T. Selvam.
