Digital payment services in India experienced disruptions on Wednesday, affecting transactions on UPI platforms. Complaints surged, indicating a widespread issue, with State Bank of India and UCO Bank being notably impacted. The number of UPI-related downtime reports exceeded 40, with users from various cities reporting failed transactions.
The disruption was not confined to a specific region, as users from cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Jaipur, and Pune encountered transaction failures. State Bank of India faced a more extensive outage, with complaints also emerging from Kolkata, Guwahati, and Chennai. On the other hand, UCO Bank users primarily in New Delhi, Jaipur, and Kolkata faced issues.
Users shared their experiences on social media platforms, expressing frustration over failed payments and uncertainties regarding the source of the problem. Instances of transactions getting stuck midway and UPI apps failing to load were reported. State Bank of India attributed the disruption to a scheduled maintenance activity extended until 12:30 pm on April 1, affecting services like UPI, IMPS, YONO, internet banking, NEFT, and RTGS.
The bank advised customers to utilize alternatives such as UPI Lite, eRupee (CBDC) app, and ATM services during the maintenance period. Apologizing for the inconvenience caused, State Bank of India assured users of their efforts to resolve the disruptions promptly.
