With the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections set for April 23, the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has disclosed its full list of candidates for all constituencies it will contest, a significant step in its election preparations. The votes will be tallied on May 4, and the results will be announced on the same day.
The upcoming election will feature a four-way competition, involving the DMK-led alliance, the AIADMK-aligned National Democratic Alliance (NDA), actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), and Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK). The DMK is slated to contest in 164 of the 234 Assembly constituencies, while its allies will field candidates in the remaining 70 seats.
Chief Minister M. K. Stalin has revealed the party’s full slate of 164 candidates, with Stalin himself running from Kolathur constituency and his son, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, seeking re-election from Chepauk–Triplicane. Notably, veteran leader O. Panneerselvam, who joined the DMK after being expelled from the AIADMK, will contest from Bodinayakanur in Theni district.
Several senior leaders and sitting ministers will continue in their traditional constituencies, emphasizing the party’s focus on continuity and the strength of incumbency. The release of the candidate list indicates the DMK’s preparedness for a high-stakes electoral battle, with alliances and candidate selections now firmly established ahead of the polls.
