A doctor from Manipur’s Senapati district, Dr. Loni Lirina, who works at the American Oncology Institute, Babina Specialty Hospital in Imphal, recently saved a 21-year-old passenger’s life during a mid-air medical emergency on an Air India flight from Tokyo to New Delhi. The young woman on the flight faced severe breathing difficulties, prompting Dr. Lirina to provide immediate medical assistance.
Dr. Lirina’s quick response included recommending oxygen support, nebulisation, and essential medications to stabilize the passenger’s condition. Within just 30 minutes of her intervention, the woman’s health significantly improved, negating the need for an emergency landing. The flight safely landed in New Delhi with the passenger reported to be in stable condition.
According to Dr. Lirina, the passenger had a history of childhood asthma but had not been on medication for years. Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh commended Dr. Lirina for her life-saving actions, emphasizing the importance of both skill and compassion in such critical situations.
The Chief Minister praised Dr. Lirina’s courage and timely intervention, highlighting her clinical excellence and dedication to the medical profession.
