The Election Commission of India has directed the transfer of 149 lower-level police officers, including Inspectors and Sub-Inspectors, from poll-related duties in West Bengal. Of these officers, 81 are Inspectors and 68 are Sub-Inspectors. The officers have been assigned new responsibilities, with a deadline to assume their new roles by 5 P.M. the following day.
District police superintendents in West Bengal will oversee the implementation of the Commission’s order. The transferred officers are required to pledge that they will not interfere in the voting process, either directly or indirectly. The upcoming Assembly polls in West Bengal are set for two phases on April 23 and April 29, with results expected on May 4.
The transferred officers include individuals from various police districts across the state. The transfers were carried out in three phases, starting with senior-ranking officers in the first phase, followed by mid-level officers, and concluding with lower-ranked Inspectors and Sub-Inspectors.
