Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated that he is not aware of any instances where xAI’s chatbot, Grok, produced sexualized images of underage individuals. Musk clarified that Grok generates images only in response to user requests and does not create them spontaneously. This comes amidst regulatory scrutiny following reports that Grok complied with requests to digitally undress real people, including minors.
Musk emphasized that Grok is programmed to reject illegal requests and operates in compliance with the laws of each country or state. He assured that if any unexpected behavior occurs due to hacking attempts, they promptly address and rectify the issue. Additionally, new restrictions have been imposed to prevent Grok from editing images of real people in revealing attire and to limit image creation for paid subscribers only.
Responding to claims that specific groups had encountered the controversial images, Musk dismissed the notion that the chatbot could autonomously generate illegal content. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) had previously taken action against x Corp for failing to curb the circulation of inappropriate content on its platform. The government instructed x Corp to submit an action taken report for immediate compliance in preventing the dissemination of obscene and indecent content through services like ‘Grok’ and other xAI offerings.
