A full emergency was declared at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport when an IndiGo flight, 6E 579, faced a technical issue with one of its engines mid-air. The flight, which was on a Boeing 737 from Vishakhapatnam, landed safely at 10:52 a.m. on Saturday at the Delhi airport’s runway number 28. Emergency services at the airport were activated, and necessary arrangements were swiftly put in place by the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) following aviation protocols.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation confirmed the full emergency at the airport at 10:39 a.m., with the flight touching down safely at 10:54 a.m., leading to the resumption of normal operations. All 161 passengers and crew members onboard the flight were reported safe, with no damage to the aircraft. The Delhi Fire Service was alerted about the emergency landing at 10:54 a.m., prompting immediate dispatch of fire tenders to the airport.
The IndiGo flight, which was en route from Visakhapatnam to Delhi, had been wet-leased from Turkey’s Corendon Airlines. Reports indicated that the aircraft was undergoing necessary checks and inspections to determine the cause of the engine failure. An IndiGo official emphasized the airline’s commitment to prioritizing customer and crew safety, highlighting the adherence to precautionary measures and standard operating procedures when the issue was identified, leading to the request for a priority landing at IGI airport.
