The Enforcement Task Force (ETF) of the Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) identified 140 violations related to dust management in Meerut and Faridabad. During the 128th meeting, held on Thursday, the ETF reviewed enforcement activities in the National Capital Region (NCR) from March 14 to March 26. Inspections by the CAQM Flying Squads across various sectors led to proposed closures and actions against violators.
The inspections, spanning 13 days, encompassed key areas like Construction & Demolition (C&D), Industrial Sector, Road Dust, and Diesel Generator (DG) sets. A total of 175 inspections were conducted, with violations found in C&D sites, industrial sectors, and DG sets. The inspection reports resulted in proposed closures for 10 units, sealing of DG sets for 27 units, Show Cause Notices (SCNs) for eight units, and Environmental Compensation (EC) for one unit.
The Task Force emphasized sectoral enforcement, particularly focusing on road dust management. In Meerut and Faridabad, 140 violations were detected across 16 zones. Directives were issued to municipal bodies for necessary corrective actions, including notices for repeated non-compliance. Discussions also highlighted the importance of targeted inspections in priority sectors such as DG sets, C&D sites, road dust, and stone crushers.
Restructuring of Flying Squad teams is in progress, with revised team compositions expected soon. The Task Force reviewed the cumulative enforcement status as of April 2, revealing that 26,672 units/projects/entities have been inspected. Closure directions have been issued for 1,755 cases of non-compliance, with 1,330 resumption orders issued upon compliance verification. Additionally, 123 cases have been forwarded to State Pollution Control Boards (SPCBs)/Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) for final decisions, while 302 entities are still under examination.
