Sankara Nethralaya has honored US-based engineer and philanthropist Bala Reddy Indurti with the Sankara Ratna Award 2023 for his impactful social work. As the president of Sankara Nethralaya USA, Indurti expanded the organization’s presence, establishing multiple chapters across the United States. His ‘Adopt a Village’ initiative enables Indian expatriates to sponsor Mobile Eye Surgical Unit (MESU) camps in their native villages, providing essential eye care to underserved communities.

The award ceremony saw Gagandeep Singh Bedi, Additional Chief Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department, present the honor. Notable attendees included former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu, Sankara Nethralaya chairman T.S. Surendran, MRF secretary G. Ramachandran, and MRF president Girish Rao.

Reflecting on his contributions, Indurti shared, “In the last six years as president, we expanded Sankara Nethralaya in the USA from seven to 21 chapters, reflecting the respect for Dr. Badrinath’s vision.”

Gagandeep Singh Bedi emphasized the importance of extending cataract treatment to rural areas, urging collaboration between medical organizations and the government to screen children in under-resourced schools and increase awareness about eye donation.
