With the Union Budget 2026–27 presentation approaching, experts emphasize the need for the government to enhance the ease of doing business and create more opportunities for women in various sectors. Tax expert Manmohan Srivastava Kaju highlighted the government’s previous efforts, such as raising the income tax exemption limit to Rs 12 lakh and implementing GST 2.0 with reduced tax slabs.
In preparation for the upcoming budget, experts suggest that simplifying business operations should be a top priority. Many traders currently encounter challenges on the GST portal, leading to compliance issues. For instance, the exclusive issuance of notices through the portal results in traders missing important communications, potentially resulting in higher tax payments or penalties.
The upcoming Union Budget, scheduled for presentation on February 1 by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, will mark her ninth consecutive budget. Sitharaman holds the record for the highest number of consecutive budgets after C.D. Deshmukh. If she presents the budget for the financial year 2028, she will match the record set by late Morarji Desai, who presented a total of 10 budgets across two tenures.
Finance Minister Sitharaman, India’s first full-time woman finance minister since 2019, retained the finance portfolio after the Modi-led government’s third consecutive term in 2024.
