The police in Kolkata have recovered the firearms used in the recent killing of a 27-year-old promoter in Howrah’s Peelkhana area. The main accused, Harun Khan and Rohit Hossain, however, are still missing. Two firearms and two rounds of bullets were found in the water tank of a house in central Kolkata belonging to Mohammad Wakil alias Munna, who has been arrested.
After the murder of promoter Shafiq Khan, the accused Harun Khan and Rohit Hossain sought refuge in Mohammad Wakil’s house. Three individuals, Mohammad Bilal, Mohammad Wakil alias Munna, and Dildar Hossain, were arrested for their indirect involvement in the case. Despite this, the main suspects remain at large, believed to have fled West Bengal. The police are now reviewing CCTV footage to locate them.
The state government has initiated a CID investigation following the family’s dissatisfaction with the police’s handling of the case. CCTV footage capturing the murder has surfaced, while another video showing Harun Khan with a local MLA has raised questions. The Opposition has questioned the police’s efficiency, suggesting a close connection between the suspects and ruling party members. In response, the Trinamool Congress has denied these allegations, stating that meeting elected representatives is a common practice.
