In a groundbreaking development in reproductive medicine, Gameto has announced the birth of the first baby conceived using Fertilo, a revolutionary technology that matures eggs outside the body. This successful birth took place at Santa Isabel Clinic in Lima, Peru, marking a significant step forward in fertility treatments.

Fertilo utilizes ovarian support cells (OSC) to replicate the natural egg maturation process, reducing the reliance on hormone injections that are typically required in traditional IVF methods. In comparison to conventional methods, which involve high-dose hormonal stimulation over 10 to 14 days, this new technique only requires minimal hormonal intervention and reduces treatment cycles to just three days.

The founder and CEO of Gameto, Dina Radenkovic, celebrated the achievement, calling it a “turning point in reproductive health.” She emphasized that Fertilo is not just a scientific breakthrough but also a solution to long-standing challenges in fertility treatments, such as the physical and emotional strain caused by extended cycles and heavy hormone use. This advancement also marks the first application of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) in IVF, opening the door for improved reproductive outcomes and advancing women’s health globally.

In addition to the emotional and physical benefits for mothers, the process significantly lowers the risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, a condition that can occur when the ovaries are overstimulated during traditional IVF cycles. By offering a less invasive egg retrieval process, Fertilo provides a gentler experience for women undergoing assisted reproductive technology (ART).

The mother of the baby, who chose Fertilo over traditional IVF methods, shared her satisfaction with the technology, praising it for making her journey more hopeful and less stressful. She described the experience as “gentler,” as it required fewer injections and offered a less invasive egg retrieval process, which gave her emotional relief during a deeply personal time.

With its ability to deliver high-quality, mature eggs in a fraction of the time required by conventional methods, Fertilo is set to revolutionize the fertility industry by providing a more efficient and accessible solution for families trying to conceive. Gameto aims to make IVF and egg freezing not only faster but also safer through its innovation of maturing eggs outside the body.

Fertilo has already received regulatory clearances in key markets in Latin America and Australia, and there are ongoing efforts to bring this technology to more countries. As this method continues to develop, it offers new hope to countless families around the world.
