Foreign Affairs expert Waiel Awwad shared his views on the recent talks between Iran and the US, describing them as inconclusive rather than failed. Despite no agreement being reached, both sides presented their points during the discussions held in Pakistan’s Islamabad.
Awwad highlighted that these talks marked the highest level of engagement since 1949, emphasizing the importance of dialogue between the US and Iran on mutual interests. While certain common ground was identified, differences remain on key issues such as the nuclear matter and the Strait of Hormuz.
Addressing the negotiation dynamics, Awwad pointed out that the US aimed to assert dominance, but Iran emphasized the need for mutual understanding. He stressed the significance of reaching compromises to move forward, especially considering Iran’s flexibility on nuclear-related issues.
Regarding Pakistan’s role in the talks, Awwad noted that the country lacks the authority to enforce any resolution. He underscored the necessity for the US to demonstrate a willingness to compromise on various fronts to advance towards a potential deal with Iran.
