A special CBI court in Bhopal has sentenced two individuals, including a former bank official and a private person, to seven years of rigorous imprisonment each for their involvement in a bank fraud case amounting to Rs 27 lakh. Piyush Chaturvedi, the then Senior Branch Manager of Bank of India’s Misrod branch in Bhopal, and Mohan Singh Solanki were convicted for their roles in the fraudulent scheme.
The convicted individuals have also been fined Rs 60,000 each by the court. The judgment was pronounced on April 1. The case, initiated on January 25, 2016, following a complaint by the Deputy Zonal Manager of Bank of India, Bhopal, revealed that Chaturvedi had deceitfully approved a term loan in the name of a firm, M/s Vision Computer, which was then diverted to another firm owned by Mohan Singh Solanki’s wife.
The investigation uncovered a conspiracy where the accused misused the sanctioned loan for personal gain, causing financial harm to the bank. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a charge sheet against the duo, leading to their conviction and sentencing by the court.
In a separate incident of bank fraud, a CBI court in Lucknow recently sentenced five individuals, including a senior bank official, to three years in prison and imposed fines totaling Rs 3.4 lakh on March 31. The CBI continues to actively pursue cases of fraud and corruption, resulting in convictions and penalties for the offenders.
