Former champion Lakshya Sen and the top women’s doubles pair, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, had a strong start at the India Open 2026. Sen swiftly won his match against Shetty, while Treesa and Gayatri secured a victory against Thailand’s Jongsathapornparn and Suwachai.

On the opening day, Chou Tien Chen, Kodai Naroaka, and Alex Lanier faced defeats in the men’s singles category. Sen dominated the net exchanges against Shetty, securing a comfortable win. The Indian duo of Treesa and Gayatri displayed a commanding performance, setting the stage for a promising campaign.

Sen expressed satisfaction with his performance, highlighting the importance of a good start in any tournament. Treesa and Gayatri’s victory sets them up to face the Chinese duo Li Yi Jing and Luo Xu Min in the next round. Additionally, the men’s doubles pairing of Hariharan Amsakarunan and MR Arjun advanced to the second round after defeating a Malaysian team.

Shruti Mishra and Priya Konjengbam fought hard in the women’s doubles but were unable to convert their opportunities, losing in a close match against a Hong Kong pair. The tournament saw various exciting matches, with players gearing up for further challenges in the upcoming rounds.
