A former CRPF official and two personnel have been sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs. 1.2 lakh by a Special CBI Court in Lucknow. The case pertains to corruption in the recruitment of constables in the paramilitary force.
The court found former CRPF Deputy Inspector General Vinod Kumar Sharma, along with CRPF personnel Satyavir Singh and Tirath Pal Chaturvedi, guilty under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) initiated the case on February 23, 2009, based on information received against Sharma and others.
According to the CBI, an investigation revealed that Sharma conspired with private individuals to receive illegal gratification from constable candidates. He allegedly leaked recruitment schedules and vacancies to middlemen who then solicited bribes from candidates in exchange for guaranteed selection.
Chargesheets were filed by the CBI against the accused on November 23, 2010, and July 16, 2012, following the completion of the investigation. In a separate case, a Special CBI Court sentenced six individuals involved in the Coimbatore overseas job scam to jail terms ranging from 4 to 14 years, along with fines.
