Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda criticized the state BJP government, alleging that they are misleading electricity consumers through a solar scheme. Hooda expressed concern that the government imposes high fixed charges on consumers under the ‘Solar for Every Home’ initiative, despite claiming to promote solar energy. He questioned the benefit for consumers who face hefty charges if their solar electricity generation falls short of consumption.
Hooda highlighted that the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) and Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) have proposed a substantial 15 to 17 per cent hike in electricity tariffs for 2026-27. This move, according to Hooda, will burden domestic, commercial, and industrial consumers with increased costs, leading to higher electricity expenses for the public.
The former Chief Minister raised concerns about the government’s approach to managing losses in electricity corporations. He questioned why the government is not focusing on enhancing efficiency and reducing losses, instead of burdening the public with expensive electricity. Hooda also criticized the BJP for significantly raising electricity prices last year, causing financial strain on consumers, with some facing a fourfold increase in their electricity bills.
