India’s former Ambassador to Qatar, K.P. Fabian, shared insights on the West Asia conflict, describing Iran’s strategy as a “smart chess game.” He criticized US President Donald Trump’s statements, suggesting they reflect a disconnect from reality. Fabian highlighted that the Strait of Hormuz is not entirely blocked, with exceptions for ships from certain countries.
Fabian pointed out that Iran’s restrictions primarily target vessels associated with the US, Israel, and their allies. He noted the significance of French and Japanese ships navigating the strait, emphasizing diplomatic solutions over military actions. The former Ambassador highlighted the complexities of the situation, including the involvement of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
Discussing Trump’s approach, Fabian questioned the feasibility of NATO countries sending their navies to the region. He expressed skepticism about Trump’s plans to control the oil flow through the Strait of Hormuz for economic gain. Fabian criticized the inconsistency in Trump’s statements and underscored the persistent tensions between Iran, Israel, and the US.
