Former Indian spinner Piyush Chawla expressed his views on Mumbai Indians’ defeat against Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 match. Chawla noted that Mumbai Indians faced challenges early in their chase, losing crucial wickets in the initial overs while pursuing a target of 151 runs in an 11-over game. This setback put pressure on Mumbai Indians, making the chase significantly difficult.
Chawla highlighted Rajasthan Royals’ strong performance, particularly in the Powerplay phase. He praised the team’s batting for providing a solid foundation and commended Jofra Archer’s effective bowling along with Nandre Burger’s key wickets. The early loss of three wickets for around 20 runs put Mumbai Indians at a disadvantage right from the start of the match.
Piyush Chawla also lauded Yashasvi Jaiswal for his impressive unbeaten 77 runs, which played a pivotal role in Rajasthan Royals’ strong start. He emphasized Jaiswal’s confidence and impact, especially in a high-pressure 11-over game scenario. Chawla recognized the significance of Jaiswal’s performance against Mumbai Indians.
Chawla further acknowledged the fearless batting of 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi against Mumbai’s formidable bowling attack. He highlighted the special nature of performing well against a top team like Mumbai Indians, known for their quality bowlers such as Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah. Chawla praised Suryavanshi’s standout performance, which garnered attention due to his young age and the opposition’s bowling strength.
In the match, Rajasthan Royals secured a victory over Mumbai Indians, propelled by an explosive 80-run opening partnership between Yashasvi and Sooryavanshi. The match, held at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati, saw Rajasthan Royals triumph by 27 runs in a rain-affected encounter, marking their third consecutive win in the IPL 2026 campaign.
