Former Nepal Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli, along with ex-Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, was arrested by the new government regarding a culpable homicide case linked to the suppression of Gen Z protests in 2025. Madhav Prasad Chaulagain, a former Nepal Minister, stated that the arrests are part of the implementation of an investigation report by the previous government.
Chaulagain emphasized that the arrests were not pre-planned but a result of the new government’s immediate action upon receiving the investigation report. He highlighted that the government’s decision aims to fulfill promises made to the public and address demands from the youth and Gen Zs for justice.
While acknowledging potential protests from Oli supporters, Chaulagain expressed confidence that if handled judiciously, the situation should remain stable. He urged the government to ensure transparent legal procedures to prevent escalation of tensions. Chaulagain praised the new government for its inclusive nature, representing Nepal’s diversity and youthfulness.
