Dr. Vijaypat Singhania, the former Managing Director of Raymond Group and a recipient of the Padma Bhushan award, passed away at the age of 87 as confirmed by his son Gautam Singhania in a social media post on Saturday.
Gautam Singhania expressed deep sorrow over his father’s demise, describing him as a visionary leader, philanthropist, and an inspiring figure whose legacy will continue to influence future generations.
The funeral of Vijaypat Singhania is scheduled to take place at Chandanwadi cremation ground in Mumbai on Sunday, with family and friends requested to gather at 1.30 pm at Haveli, L. D. Ruparel Marg.
Vijaypat Singhania will be remembered as a prominent Indian industrialist who significantly contributed to the growth and success of the Raymond Group, shaping it into a reputable and enduring organization.
Gautam Singhania, an Indian entrepreneur and aviator, succeeded his father as the Chairman of the Raymond Group from 1980 to 2015, overseeing its evolution and expansion over several decades.
Following his tenure as chairman of Raymond, Vijaypat Singhania transferred his entire 37% stake in the company to his son, recognizing his leadership and commitment to the business.
Vijaypat Singhania’s remarkable contributions to the industry and the nation were acknowledged through various honors, including an honorary PhD from the London Institute of Technology & Research and the prestigious Padma Bhushan award in 2006.
Moreover, his service to the Indian Air Force led to his appointment as an Honorary Air Commodore in 1994, and he was appointed as the Sheriff of Mumbai in 2006.
