Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam stated on Thursday that no concrete plans have been made yet regarding the establishment of a separate political entity for contesting elections. He urged party members and the public to not be misled by rumors. Panneerselvam, addressing the media in Theni district after a closed-door meeting with party officials, mentioned that discussions are ongoing, and a decision will only be made after gauging the sentiments of grassroots supporters.
The meeting, held at his farmhouse in Kailasapatti near Periyakulam, was attended by various administrators from Theni town, union-level bodies, and affiliated groups. Panneerselvam emphasized that the focus remains on restoring the rights of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) workers through legal channels. He clarified that the decision to participate in elections independently has not been finalized, cautioning against spreading confusion among the populace.
Panneerselvam highlighted the importance of the legal battle being fought in court to protect the rights of AIADMK cadre, affirming that the struggle will persist until justice is served. Referring to his past electoral engagement in Ramanathapuram, he explained that the move was aimed at assessing party members’ support. Panneerselvam also addressed concerns about individuals using his name for political purposes, stating that such actions are being legally challenged to ensure the rights of AIADMK workers are upheld.
Acknowledging Theni district’s political significance, Panneerselvam noted its history of producing notable Chief Ministers and its strong ties to the AIADMK. He called for unity among those loyal to the AIADMK’s principles, emphasizing the need for solidarity. Panneerselvam responded to queries regarding T.T.V. Dhinakaran’s potential alliance with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), expressing readiness to collaborate with both NDA and AIADMK. He stressed the importance of unity within the AIADMK for electoral success, reiterating his commitment to fostering cohesion among party factions.
