Four people sustained serious injuries in a significant explosion at a firecracker factory in Champahati, South 24 Parganas district. One of the injured is in critical condition and all have been moved to a hospital in Kolkata for better medical care. The explosion occurred in Haral village under the Champahati area of Baruipur police station.
Local reports indicate that the explosion took place while firecrackers were being manufactured at the site. The sudden blast, which occurred as workers were making firecrackers, caused severe damage to a part of the house and set a nearby tree on fire. Following the incident, a fire engine was dispatched to extinguish the flames.
Residents revealed that the explosion happened at the residence of firecracker trader Pintu Mondal, resulting in the complete destruction of his house. Pintu Mondal, along with two others, suffered burn injuries in the explosion. It was discovered that Pintu had stored some unsold firecrackers at his home after the Kali Puja festival last year.
Authorities, including the police and fire department, are investigating the cause of the explosion. The Additional Superintendent of Police of Baruipur Police District, Rupantar Sengupta, confirmed that an investigation has been initiated into the incident. The explosion has caused panic in the area, reminiscent of a similar explosion that occurred in the same village about a year ago.
