Gas supply to Quetta and several districts in Balochistan, Pakistan, has been disrupted due to an explosion on the main gas pipeline at the Western Bypass area. The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) reported that unidentified assailants blew up an 18-inch diameter pipeline in the Akhtarabad area, leading to the suspension of gas supply in various regions.
Authorities mentioned that armed individuals planted an explosive device under the gas pipeline, causing it to catch fire and impacting gas supply to parts of Quetta and Balochistan. The blast resulted in significant damage to a large section of the pipeline, with repair work pending security clearance before restoration can begin.
In response to the incident, a heightened security presence has been deployed at gas facilities in Quetta. This disruption comes after recent attacks by the Balochistan Liberation Front targeting telecommunications infrastructure and security posts in the region, leading to casualties and material destruction.
