Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced the cancellation of 12 lakh SIM cards for cyber security measures and the blocking of IMEI numbers of 3 lakh mobiles. Additionally, 20,853 individuals have been arrested in connection with cybercrimes as of December 2025.
Shah, speaking at a conference on combating cyber-enabled frauds, highlighted the collaborative efforts of various government agencies in tackling cybercrime. These efforts involve agencies such as the CBI, NIA, ED, and others working collectively to combat cyber threats.
Emphasizing the importance of coordination among stakeholders, Shah praised the initiative by the CBI and I4C, which aims to enhance inter-agency connectivity for more effective implementation of cybersecurity measures. The Home Minister credited the success in combating cybercrime to the concerted efforts of multiple institutions and the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Under the leadership of the Prime Minister, Shah noted the significant growth in internet users in India over the past 11 years, with broadband connections surpassing 1 billion. He also highlighted the decrease in data costs by 97%, leading to increased internet access and usage across the country.
