The government has selected seven locations nationwide to establish PM Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) Parks, as disclosed in Parliament. These parks will be situated in Virudhnagar (Tamil Nadu), Warangal (Telangana), Navasari (Gujarat), Kalaburagi (Karnataka), Dhar (Madhya Pradesh), Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), and Amravati (Maharashtra). Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh confirmed that there are no current plans to add more parks under the PM MITRA initiative.
Moreover, a new scheme for setting up mega textile parks in a “challenge mode” was announced in the Union Budget 2026-27. The Ministry of Textiles has initiated discussions with state governments and stakeholders to expedite approval and execution of the scheme. The government remains committed to enhancing the handloom sector and supporting weavers, offering financial aid through programs like the National Handloom Development Programme and Raw Material Supply Scheme.
Additionally, efforts are underway to promote the handicrafts sector through schemes such as the National Handicrafts Development Programme and the Comprehensive Handicrafts Cluster Development Scheme. These initiatives provide comprehensive assistance to artisans, encompassing skill development, infrastructure, technology, branding, and marketing support. The government’s Integrated Textiles Programme introduced in the Union Budget 2026 includes the Textile Expansion and Employment Scheme (TEEM), aimed at modernizing traditional textile clusters and enhancing employment opportunities.
