The government is gearing up to observe the 8th edition of ‘Poshan Pakhwada’ to strengthen nutritional outcomes nationwide. Scheduled from April 9-23, the initiative, as per the Ministry of Women and Child Development, aims at optimizing brain development in the first six years of life. Research highlights that a significant 85% of brain development occurs by the age of six, underscoring the critical role of proper nutrition, responsive caregiving, and early learning.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stressed the significance of nutrition, stating that a well-nourished child forms the cornerstone of a robust nation. He views Poshan Abhiyaan not just as a government scheme but as a people’s movement towards ensuring comprehensive nutrition for every mother and child. The national launch of ‘Poshan Pakhwada 2026’ will be held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, led by Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Annpurna Devi, alongside Minister of State for Women and Child Development, Savitri Thakur.
This year’s theme for ‘Poshan Pakhwada’ encompasses key areas such as Maternal and Child Nutrition, Early Stimulation for Brain Development (0–3 years), Play-Based Education in Early Years (3–6 years), the Role of Parents and Community in Reducing Screen Time, and Strengthening Anganwadi Centers through Community Engagement. The focus is on enhancing infrastructure and service delivery through public participation and corporate social responsibility.
Activities during the Pakhwada will be conducted nationwide through Anganwadi Centers, involving mothers, caregivers, families, community entities, and local authorities. These activities will include Poshan Panchayats, awareness sessions, early stimulation exercises, play-based learning programs, and campaigns advocating healthy lifestyles and reduced screen time for young children, as per government plans.
