The government’s ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ (BBBP) scheme underwent third-party evaluations in 2020 and 2025 through NITI Aayog, with studies revealing its satisfactory effectiveness. Minister of State for Women and Child Development Savitri Thakur highlighted that the initiatives under BBBP have garnered significant recall value, evolving into a national movement involving diverse stakeholders like government bodies, media, and civil society. The scheme aims to combat gender-based discrimination, promote the value of the girl child, and ensure her rights and opportunities.
Two evaluations conducted by NITI Aayog in 2020 and 2025 affirmed the relevance, effectiveness, and sustainability of the Ministry’s schemes, including components related to Beti Bachao Beti Padhao. Thakur emphasized that BBBP plays a crucial role in addressing the Child Sex Ratio (CSR) and empowering girls and women by fostering mindset and behavioral changes through stakeholder engagement. The scheme has been integrated into the Sambal Sub-scheme of Mission Shakti during the 15th Finance Commission Period from 2021-22 to 2025-26, expanding its coverage to all districts nationwide.

Additionally, she mentioned the implementation of women-centric schemes like Namo Drone Didi, Lakhpati Didi, and initiatives such as Women in Science and Engineering- KIRAN (WISE-KIRAN) and SERB-POWER to enhance women’s employability.
