Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi recently launched development projects totaling Rs 203 crore in Vadodara. The projects, which include water supply, roads, and urban infrastructure works, were unveiled during an event organized by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation. Additionally, a foundation stone for a new girls’ hostel at the Swarnim Gujarat Sports University in Desar was laid during the same occasion.
Sanghavi emphasized the government’s commitment to meeting the basic needs of citizens by converting them into accessible facilities across municipal wards. He highlighted the necessity for long-term planning as urbanization progresses, noting that by 2047, a significant portion of the population will reside in cities. The government aims to develop planned infrastructure ahead of this urban population growth.
Regarding infrastructure development in Vadodara, Sanghavi disclosed that the budget includes a special provision of Rs 1,000 crore for the development of newly merged areas in the city. Specifically, Rs 800 crore is allocated for water supply lines, Rs 700 crore for the drainage network, and Rs 400 crore for road renovation and strengthening.
Under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme, a new overhead water tank and delivery network were inaugurated in the Bhayli and Sevasi areas. This initiative is expected to provide clean drinking water to over 50,000 residents and has already led to a 50% reduction in water-borne diseases over the past three years.
