The Gujarat Government’s budget for 2026-27, presented by Finance Minister Kanu Desai, focuses on empowering farmers and rural development. With a total budget of Rs 4.08 lakh crore, the Agriculture and Farmer Welfare Department receives Rs 24,022 crore, emphasizing the importance of agriculture in the state.
Agriculture and Spokesperson Minister Jitu Vaghani praised the budget, stating that it aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Developed India @ 2047’. The budget, themed ‘Where there is humanity, there are facilities’, prioritizes sectors like agriculture, health, education, and infrastructure for holistic state development.
Minister Vaghani highlighted the government’s emphasis on agricultural mechanization to reduce labor and costs for farmers. The budget allocates over Rs 1,500 crore for mechanization, including funds for modern farming equipment and tractor purchases to enhance agricultural productivity.
The Crop Storage Structure Scheme sees an increase in structure size to 600 sq. ft, with doubled assistance of Rs two lakh per unit. Additionally, Rs 392 crore is allocated to promote chemical-free organic farming, while Rs 1,063 crore is earmarked for research and infrastructure development at state agricultural universities.
The new ‘Gujarat Agribusiness and Export Promotion Policy’ aims to support agriculture-based industries, benefiting over 5,000 agri-businesses, agri-tech enterprises, and MSMEs. The policy offers various forms of assistance, including capital aid, interest subsidy, and technology support to boost the agricultural sector.
