The Gujarat government has inked a Letter of Intent with Starlink Satellite Communications Private Limited, a SpaceX subsidiary, to enhance digital connectivity in remote and underserved areas of the state. This move aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Digital India’ vision and the goal of ‘Viksit Bharat @2047’. The agreement includes plans for satellite-based high-speed internet in regions with limited telecom infrastructure, focusing on areas like tribal belts and Aspirational Districts.
The collaboration aims to connect Common Service Centres and e-governance facilities to improve the delivery of government services. It also involves providing smart connectivity to healthcare and education facilities like Primary Health Centres and government schools. Additionally, the plan encompasses disaster management control rooms, wildlife sanctuaries, and coastal areas to enhance coordination and response capabilities.
Furthermore, the partnership entails capacity-building initiatives through joint training programs for government agencies, schools, and disaster management teams. It also includes enhancing connectivity for industrial parks, highway safety systems, maritime operations, and coastal police units. A Joint Working Group will oversee the implementation of these initiatives, ensuring effective planning and execution.
