After Gujarat Titans secured a thrilling one-run win against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Captain Shubman Gill has been fined Rs 12 lakh for a slow over-rate during the match. This marked the team’s first offense of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct. The fine was imposed as per Article 2.22, which deals with minimum over-rate offenses.
In earlier instances, Punjab Kings’ skipper Shreyas Iyer had also faced fines for slow over-rate violations in IPL 2026. The penalty for Gill came following Gujarat Titans’ dramatic victory that saw Delhi Capitals needing two runs off the final two deliveries. Rashid Khan shone with a remarkable 3-17, while Prasidh Krishna’s two crucial wickets in the final over sealed the win for GT.
The one-run triumph for Gujarat Titans was fueled by stellar performances from Gill, Jos Buttler, and Washington Sundar, each scoring fifties. Buttler’s explosive 52 off 27 balls, including three fours and five sixes, showcased his batting prowess. Gill, returning from a neck injury, led the charge with an elegant 70 off 45 deliveries, featuring four boundaries and five sixes, mostly through the leg-side.
Gill’s partnership with Sundar, who scored his maiden IPL fifty with a brisk 55 off 32 balls, comprising six boundaries and two sixes, proved pivotal. The 2022 IPL champions posted a formidable 210/4, setting up their victory. Gujarat Titans will face Lucknow Super Giants in their next match at Lucknow on Sunday afternoon.
